Engine specific VVT control information

BMW S54

Intake cam tol DIN 1 (hall sensor, +5V power supply).

Exhaust CAM to HOME (hall sensor, +5V power supply).

Crank sensor of VR type.

VANOS connector pin 1: Intake retard.

VANOS connector pin 2: +12V power supply.

VANOS connector pin 3: Intake advance.

VANOS connector pin 4: Exhaust retard.

VANOS connector pin 5: +12V power supply.

VANOS connector pin 6: Exhaust advance.

Note: Remember to remove the flyback diode inside the VANOS connector if wired to regular GPO (Switched to GND).

Note: The above pinout, is when using regular GND GPO to control the VANOS solenoids. OE the +12V and GND is switched.

Note: The voltage from the crank trigger is really high, so in most cases an external 8-20kohm resistor must be installed in series with the VR+ wire to the ECU.

E-Throttle wiring/setup

The BMW S54 E-Throttle is very power hungry, paralellwire all four H-bridge outputs is a recommendation to be able to handle the higher current.

Note: if the ECU has dual H-bridge outputs.

Wire GPO12 and GPO14 to motor+, and GPO11 and GPO13 to motor-.

Supported ECUs

For BMW S54 which have digital cam position sensors (VANOS), a MaxxECU with atleast 2 digital inputs is needed, example: MaxxECU STREET, SPORT, RACE, RACE H20, GEN2 RACE , PRO is needed. MaxxECU MINI do not have enough digital inputs.
